Flare 11 enhances HTML5 usability

The new or extended features in MadCap Flare have exceeded user expectations. Among the most powerful new features are HTML 5 top navigation, enhancements for PDF and Word imports, and the option to create user-defined macros. Here is an overview for new and advanced users.

I must confess that when I eventually migrated from FrameMaker some five years ago, it was with a certain degree of anxiety, uncertainty and sheer fright. Would the transition to topic-based authoring prove to be the correct decision? Fast forward – skipping the many hours of understanding, retrying, importing 15 years of legacy documents and a change of mindset – the result is quite clear: I pulled it off.

For the uninitiated, here’s a brief recap of the major functions and functionalities. For experienced Flare users, I can already disclose that the update is worthwhile, and you can jump straight to “Flare 11 – some important new stuff”, further down in this article.

Interface

The interface is a typical multi-pane window with different functions in different panes. It is highly flexible and, if you spend a bit of time on it, can be adjusted to your needs to ease daily use.
